story time with my little boys is my favourite part of the day. it's that quiet time just before bed when the children are warm and bathed and smell like clementines and sweet lavender and milk and all the tantrums and tensions of the day are forgotten as we lose ourselves in stories. they have their own little cosy corner, and it's as if they calm down whenever we snuggle up in there.
i think, though, that grown ups need their own little cosy corners too. a retreat after the children have gone to bed, or perhaps while they are at nursery or school. a nook to switch off from our phones. a corner to look for calm before the to-do list presents itself. somewhere to sit, legs curled up and under, and read uninterrupted. or simply just a place to sit and be still.
there is not much to it, really - a pile of comfy cushions, a blanket or two, a beautifully scented natural soy candle gently lit just so. and yet this simple act of gifting ourselves a moment of quiet is so rare that we need to look for inspiration in order to make it happen.
so do you have your own little hideaway, your own cosy corner to retreat to in your times of quiet, times of need? and what makes it special for you? let me know in the comments below. i'd love to hear from you.
